Pantone chooses two colours for 2016 Colour of the year

I am a little excited about this news.
 I cant believe Pantone have chosen not one, but two of my favourite colours for 2016 Colour of the year.

This means everything I love will become available in my favourite colours, not just in home decor trends but also fashion

Insert a squeal of delight right here!!!!

Here is what Pantone have to say in regard to the latest colour selection

For the first time Pantone introduces two shades, Rose Quartz and Serenity as the PANTONE Color of the Year 2016. Rose Quartz is a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Serenity is weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times.

This beautiful vignette from French Country Cottage is a stunning example of how to use Rose Quartz. I am seriously obsessed with pinks & coppers at the moment.

There is nothing more serene than coastal style decor wouldn't you agree...

Whilst these colours are great as a stand alone accent the reason Pantone have chosen the two is because they work so well together.

 certainly know how to combine pinks, blues & neutrals to create a serene yet very stylish space.

I wish I had some photos to show of my first ever home back in the early 90's. Yes, I am showing my age now. It was painted pastel shades of blues & pinks throughout,  showing that all things come back into vogue eventually, either that or my style has never changed & I have been waiting for fashion to find me, again, he he he!!!!

Gumball Pouffe.... The latest must have accessory.

If you're loving everything interior design at the moment than you are no stranger to the fact that a lot of what we are seeing  in home decor is all about the hand made look.

This image is the perfect example with the very natural log style coffee table giving that feeling that you could pop out the back & make one for yourself....well not me, but definitely an easy task for the Dream Guy!

These fantastic Gumball Pouffes that we are seeing EVERYWHERE at the moment certainly give the impression that you have spent a rainy day on the couch with a giant set of knitting needles.

The Gumball Pouffes are a fantastic way to add a POP of colour to any room but still have a practical use.

They look great in pairs....

I love the idea of them in a Nursery, they just seem soft cosy &... well, appropriate for a gentle look in a babies space wouldn't you agree?

Looking around the Internet the neutral colours appear to be the most popular with black grey & taupe popping up everywhere.

They really are great for adding texture & softness to a space, especially in the very popular soft industrial look where there is a real emphasis on concretes, timber, metal finishes & handmade.

Tips for mixing patterns & colours to creat WOW factor

Do you feel like you are missing that WOW factor in your home but can't quite put your finger on why?

Do you have a mix of patterns but they just don't appear to work.

Well I have a couple of little tips to help you make it all work.

The general rule for mixing patterns is to have no more than 3-4 different patterns in a room.

Each different pattern should be a different size eg. a large scale pattern

a medium scale pattern & a small scale pattern.

Pick a colour from your large pattern to tie in your smaller patterns.

Make sure you spread your patterns & accent colours throughout the room & always make sure you don't put large patterns side by side...mix it up!!

Choose your patterns for your decor scheme by using the textures & colour's that are already in the room, this will help to create a sense of balance & harmony.

You can soften or calm the scheme down by mixing it with a few block colours as well.

Block colours are also a great way to add texture.

Generally when selecting colours they work best if they are on the same tonal level. So pastels with pastels, cool colours with other cool colours or a mix of warm tones.

As always rules are made to be broken but you need to be clever to get it right. There is so much more we can cover on this topic but that is for another day.

Bathroom Niche...Take 2

OOPS!
This is my second attempt at this post, unfortunately the first time around I didn't have any pictures, just HTML.
Sorry if you previously popped in for some eye candy & all you got was text...I have no clue as to why this happened...one of life's little mysteries I suppose.
Unfortunately I only ended up with one pretty picture after all of that, lucky its fabulous!!!

I love the thought of a niche set into the bathroom wall to make way for some shelving. I think its a great way to soften the room.

If you re a neutral colour scheme kind of decorator  like myself, then a set of glass shelves is a great place to create a vignette, adding a pop of colour or added textural elements to the room, that is changeable whenever the restyling urge strikes.

You do experience these urges, don't you?

Ha....of course you do!!!!

Now I love how these are accessorized, I imagine it would have a nice little inconspicuous light installed to highlight things in the evening.
Now I just have to convince the dream guy, you know, the one that will actually be doing the building, that it is worth his manpower to actually add this into the bathroom.
I can see I will be pushing the friendship A LOT in this house building process!!!

Contrasting Kitchen Island

Ive been doing a lot of kitchen stalking of late & I really find myself being drawn to the kitchens with a contrasting coloured island.
Ive always been a real matchy matchy kind of girl & since blogging & studying interior design I have learnt that matching everything to perfection is NOT the way to go, unless you want your house to look more like a catalogue, than an inviting home.
I'm wondering if I can take myself further out of my comfort zone & change my kitchen plan in the dream house, to include a contrasting colour for the kitchen island....mmmmm.... take a look at these gorgeous kitchens.

Dreaming of a Staircase

I am having a staircase in my dream house & I am a little unsure at this point how it will look.

I originally had it all planned but it would appear with the design challenges of a sloping block & the fact we have a budget the stairs have had to change. At this point in time I have no idea how my staircase will look or even if we enter from the family room or the entry.

So I have been stalking staircases online so I have plenty of ideas when I have some insight into that part of the project.

I love the storage & mirrors, they bring a little extra glamour to an already beautiful space. I look at an image like this & dream of painted white floors

I have to admit Sarah Richardson is definitely one of my favourite designers, everything she presents oozes class. She mixes pattern & texture & colour with such ease, I wish she was an Aussie. I would invite her round for coffee, for sure!!!
