Being a mother of 4 children means I'm pretty much chained to my washing basket.

This makes the laundry one of the most important rooms in the house & an efficient use of space is of the utmost importance.

I think the laundry above is certainly perfect in every way.Shaker style cabinets & subway tiles are the ultimate finish to a well set out space.

I especially love the marble topped table in the centre of the room, beautiful & handy all at the same time.

This one is another favourite & probably a little more realistic for most of our budgets & space allocation.

In my last house we had a fantastic laundry. It had a nice long bench area like this with plenty of overhead cupboards, a nice tall broom cupboard & a large linen press.

It made it very easy to stay organised, I would iron a few things each day as dinner was cooking, never having to pack things away!

Unfortunately the house we are renting has an extremely small laundry, it fits our washing machine & tumble dryer & we have a cupboard sitting in front of the external door as there is NO storage in there at all.

There is a fabulous amount of storage in this great laundry.

Its great to be able to fold & iron all of the clothes in the laundry & leave then sitting on the bench until you have time to pack it away, visitors never have to experience the mess.

Are you lucky enough to have a fabulous laundry with tonnes of storage & bench space to work on, or are you like me at the moment & folding the washing on the kitchen table each day?

A dream home for sure!!!

I was exploring some of the beautiful images on Houzz today & came across this beautiful Victorian farm house.
I was very surprised to see it was a new build as it looks like it had been a part of the scenery for many years.



I couldn't help but look follow the link for the building designer who was responsible for such a gorgeous home.
I needed to see more.

Madson design is a building design studio in San Francisco specializing in residential remodels, additions, and new custom homes.

This one just oozes character & charm

This was once a dairy farm, built in the late 1800s/early 1900s.
 The new owners are in love with the site’s history and unassuming, simple, yet beautiful nature, so were looking for a new home that would be sympathetic with its surroundings, both in appearance and in character.

I do believe this project was a definite success!

I love the freshness of the black & white exterior, softened by the greenery surrounding the home & then the original old red shed  adds a lovely contrast & a sense of history.

That sense of history was also continued inside the home.

The wood posts and mantel framing the fireplace are old railway ties, salvaged by the owners from an abandoned track nearby, they add so much character, which is why I never suspected it was a new build.

These exposed beams add a rustic & aged touch connecting  the fireplace to the rest of the home.

I love the beautiful farmhouse style kitchen ,with the shaker style doors being an all time favourite of mine.

Unfortunately there where no other photo's featuring what appears to be an incredible mudroom in the back ground.

The dining area has 180 degree views of the surrounding farm land & the pool.

Of course if you haven't had enough of the view, you could also relax in this amazing clawfoot tub.

I love the wainscoting & the hexagonal floor tiles, I could see myself enjoying some bubbles here...

both in the tub & my favourite champagne glass!

I don't know about you but I fell in love with this masterpiece!

Splash back uncertainty!!!

Well my dream kitchen is all on the drawing board & the floor tiles chosen...

Turns out I have expensive tastes, with Shaker style being in the expensive choice range, Oh well!!!

The kitchen guy was fabulous, the tile guy was extremely helpful & my dream guy was so well behaved, Ive never loved him more xxx

I am hoping to have sea grass or bamboo blinds in my kitchen, something like these ones...

My dream guy loved all of my ideas & added a few very good suggestions of his own. We selected tiles for inside & outside, designed a kitchen, laundry & vanities, without one single disagreement.
AMAZING!!!!

The colours aren't so good in this image, but this is a sample of our floor tile, wall colour, kitchen door colour & ceaserstone bench tops.

 I want to paint my walls with

 Dulux-Hogs Bristle in quarter strength

The bench top is

Ceaser Stone-Ivory

The Shaker style Cabinets are a

 Classic White, semi gloss

The floor tiles are a shade darker than the bench top,

a sandy colour

I love the look of a white subway tile in a shaker style kitchen, BUT, I have gone for a 30cm x 60cm rectangular floor tile to be laid in a running bond or brick style pattern, essentially it is a giant subway tile on the floor & I feel it would be overkill to do the same on the back splash.

 I am thinking of perhaps just a plain glossy white square tile 10cm x 10cm, but I am unsure.

What do you think would look awesome. I want to do it in tile rather than a glass panel or matching ceaserstone  so I add some extra texture, hence the choice of a glossy tile. I have such a limited colour scheme I need to add some interest with the different textured finishes.

Dream kitchen Inspiration

Whilst I'm still in the planning stage of my dream house I am putting a lot of thought into what I would like my dream kitchen to look like. The kitchen in my last house was very nice, but dark for my liking. It was made of Tasmanian Black wood with Black granite bench tops.

  Our last house had already been fully renovated when we purchased it & although it was a very nice home, it was decorated to someone else's tastes. Changing major elements would have been over capitalising for the market it was in.

This is why building from scratch is so stressful  exciting, its all about ME & I can have just what I want(within budget of course)

Sorry about the quality of the images, I hadn't even heard of a blog when I took these pics...

As you can see, its a little dark

 This is an appliance cupboard, we kept our kettle & coffee & tea here & the cups  above.

The fabulous wine rack that i never managed to completely fill....

Now for my inspiration:

I love overhead cupboards that reach all the way to the ceiling

This one looks like it has a tile floor in the colour I would like in my dream house, makes me feel I made need to go for black bench tops....

These baskets add a nice touch, giving this kitchen a bit of a country feel.

I am having a tile floor in my kitchen, probably a sandstone colour, I really like warm whites.

Do you have any suggestions for the perfect bench top colour to go with my white cabinets & light tile  floors?
