Pantone Colour of the Year 2014 Radiant Orchid

I was pretty surprised to see this one as the new Pantone Colour of the Year, but there are a lot of ways to use Radiant orchid in your home that I could embrace.

For me I would use it as an accent colour

You could go a little bolder & create a feature wall
OR

if you're a major fan then paint the entire room radiant Orchid

Of course there are variations to the shade

Design Seeds alway come up with great colour schemes from nature below are some ways to use this scheme

Very relaxed & eclectic

or slightly bolder, I love it paired with Chartreuse.

Another design seeds colour scheme. This one feels a little more sophisticated

A little sultry & moody

or once again bolder. Very morrocan.

If using it in the home is not for you then how about using it in your next celebration

Drinks

Flowers

Cakes

Or  including it in next seasons wardrobe

I could definately live with these gorgeous YSL shoes.

So do you think you will be embracing Radiant Orchard this year?

Day beds for dreaming

I love seeing a daybed incorporated into a homes decor, makes me want to stretch out a few walls in this "wee" little rental we are living in just to indulge my daybed fantasies...

Source Desire to Inspire

OOPS!
 Back to reality Trishy!!
I was just fantasising that this  room was in my house & I was relaxing here with a glass of bubbles, aaaahhhh!!!

Source Pinterest

There are so many styles of daybed around, formal, casual, practical, indoor or outdoor. Something to suit any home & budget.
Backless daybeds are great for adding extra seating & although they don't take don't take up much visual space you really would need a large room to accommodate one.

This classic style is timeless & very inviting.

How awesome does this one look with all the built ins surrounding it.
A fabulous addition to any child's room or even a guest bedroom.
A quick change of fabric choice & trim colour on the window dressings & the whole look is transformed.
Now thats perfect for people like me that can never make a long term commitment to any colour!!!

Dream child No2  always dreamt of a bed just like this as she was growing up & unfortunately never got to own one, now she is about to turn 17 & has been designing a large round bed, but has yet to convince the dream guy to build it for her !

Oh the storage, sweet sweet storage, no trouble for the kids to pack up the mess in this toy room.

And back to the fantasy.

Anyone care to join me???

DIY coffee table inspiration

Source Kyandra Rose

Who would have thought the old shipping pallet would make such a fabulous decor item...

A very simple concept & definitely a great DIY project if you wanted one of these....

Source Bodie & Fou

Pity I don't have a place for one, it would be the cheapest coffee table on the planet, mind you the dream guy would think I have gone totally nuts, for sure.
We never do see eye to eye on these decorating ideas.
Only because he has NOOOOOO style...sshhh....don't tell him I said that!!!!

Every where you look you see these fabulous blinds.
I have always loved Roman shades & I am seriously falling for them made from natural materials such as bamboo & sea grass.
A great way to add a little extra warmth into a room.
They also suit a range of decor styles & are budget friendly!!

Don't you just love them!

Orange for Erin

My sister Erin purchased her first home with her dream guy about 18 months ago & is slowly piecing together her own design style. She is pretty lucky in that her dream guy, like mine, prefers his man cave that has recently been constructed in the back yard & only shows  enough interest in the home decor to appear as though he is paying attention

Malibu Architectural contemporary living room

Now after much star gazing in the land of blog & thru my extensive magazine collection ( I may suffer from a small magazine addiction) she has determined that orange is the colour that she is drawn to as well as a bit of turquoise.
Noe Valley Three contemporary kitchen

She also loves timber flooring & white joinery.
So her dream guy got to work & laid some lovely floating timber floors throughout all of the living areas, they painted the walls a very neutral beige & all of the architraves & skirting's white.
It looks awesome!!

I love the chandelier against the orange feature wall in this image.

Now comes the time to add all of the decorator items & accents to give her home the personality she is looking for, which brings the dilemma of do you go for a feature wall......

Portland Pearl District Condo Living Room & Kitchen contemporary living room

or do you just use art & accessories, keeping the more expensive items neutral...
This art work makes a stunning feature in this lounge area

Portland Pearl District Condo contemporary living room

As you can see the art is used to connect the orange feature wall, helping the eye to comfortably peruse the room rather than being shocked by such a bold statement. You can also catch a glimpse of some orange chairs out side on the balcony, connecting the two areas.

These  colours are perfect, but if you buy an orange lounge you really have to stick with that colour for a long time, unless of course you can afford to invest in a new lounge every couple of years...

or  perhaps even using drapes to add an accent

I do love this look, a feature wall, an accent chair & a few accessories, all other main areas, neutral. This would be affordable to change when you tire of this colour scheme

Once again very neutral, with lots of different textures, a very eclectic style that I don't think would date any time soon

This space looks rather calming & restful, don't you think?

Now for me, I am a bit  colour phobic, but I would love to see the rest of this room because I think I could easily enjoy this space.

What do you think, she will be on the hunt for a new lounge sometime later in the year, after her European vacation that is... yes that is a note of jealously you detect...I have NOOOO holiday plans anytime soon :0)
Should it be brown, or is brown on its way out?
Should it be grey as its a new trend, but a classic colour all the same?
Should there be feature walls or drapes???
Ah so many choices.. Good Luck little Sis, never fear I will be sure to help you spend some money, no matter what you choose!

Bathroom beauty

House Beautiful Showcase House bathroom

Subway subway subway!!!

Bathrooms bathroom

I am a huge fan of white subway tiles in the bathroom paired with some small square tiles or mosaics for a feature & a nice border tile like a chair rail , then on the floor either a large square tile in a cream colour or a white hexagonal tile.

Just a little colour with some glorious white...

I love the detailing in these tiles

A very nice feature light, great for when you want to apply a bit of make-up

Oh look, more subway tile & they're white, I'm sensing a pattern here!!!

I love the hexagonal floor tiles...

Especially with the subway wall tiles, I think I am definitely a modern traditional
kinda gal, with a few Hampton's beach house desires!!!

dominomag-freestanding bath traditional bathroom

The Moravian star light fixture fits just perfectly in this setting, don't you think?

Schoen: A House in the Hamptons traditional bathroom

I love the look of a chandelier over the bath, but I don't think I would like the responsibility of having to keep it clean.
How about you?

I'm off tomorrow to choose my tiles & all of the joinery for the kitchen, vanities &  laundry. I know exactly what I want & I plan to take plenty of inspiration pics to visually explain my ideas. I have made a bit of a design portfolio for every room in the house, to make it simple to explain myself to the trades involved & my dream guy of course.
I have spent the entire design  process asking my dream guy if he likes this idea or that style & he has always given me a very uninterested response, such as "Do whatever you want babe, its your house" OR " Whatever babe, I trust you to do a nice job of it, Ive got NO idea"...Sounds like every girls dream...RIGHT... well it hasn't been bad until now. He is going to come along while we meet with the tile shop etc, which sounds lovely, finally he has become interested, BUT, what if he now wants to have an OPINION!!!
I have it all planned & I don't want to have to compromise, EWWW!!!
Someone PLEASE call him with an electrical emergency in the morning so he is busy & I can have my own way....He He He....sinister plot, I know!!!!
All jokes aside, I'm sure he will be a good boy & I won't need to divorce before lunch, after all, he has free design range in his man cave!
How do you go with your other half when it comes to decor decisions?
Do you have the same tastes or are you like us & live on completely different decor planets, or in my dream guy's case, era's. The 80's where a good time & mission brown was a real feature!!!

I will update you on how the day pans out!
