Bathroom tiles

Pinned Image

I love everything about this pic & I am using it as inspiration for my dream house bathroom & ensuite

I will be having some little recessed nooks in the showers to keep all of necessities, you know, shampoo etc.

I will be using subway tiles on my walls & I love how these shelves have been framed so nicely.

I would love some shelving like this at the end of the tub.
I really want a more low maintenance home
Open shelving in bathrooms & kitchens really do soften a room & give a homely feel to the space, but I can only imagine how much work it would be to keep them looking nice & I don't think I will have the time for that(I will be busy working, to pay for the dream house !!!!)

Perhaps just a little something like this over the bath, a place to keep the soap, in a fabulous little dish of course & maybe a small candle

On the floor I would love a black & white basket weave style tile  which, here in Australia is going to be a little more difficult & pricier than I expected.
I may have to rethink my floors.
When I enquired at one of the local tile stores the extremely young girl that served me, looked at the pic on my phone & promptly informed me that
"No, we don't stock those, because NO ONE would buy them!"
It was about then that I decided I wouldn't be spending my thousands of dollars on tiles in their store or using their tiler to lay them...very offensive, I thought!!!

I am waiting on quotes for my vanities, kitchen & laundry fit out so I will be sure to share the designs with you as soon as the drawings are back.

So any thoughts or suggestions are welcome as well as supplier details for these lovely floor tiles.

All of my images are from my pinterest board, pop on over & check it out if you like!!!

Have a fabulous day everyone

Love all your bathroom inspiration images, Trish. I think Jenny from the Five Year Project did basket weave for her ensuite floor... And lol about that chick in the tile shop. Some people have no idea. xx

They are gorgeous images Trish. Yes you will have trouble trying to source some of those items here. Especially the trim tiles around the built in wall niche. I tried to source some for my home to no avail. One thing I will suggest though, if you don't find the edging tiles, is don't let the tiler use tile trim. It's a plastic or metal edge that is often used to separate the bathroom floor from carpet and lazy tilers like to use it in places like the recessed shelves. Make sure you stipulate you want the edges mitred. They will grumble but you will get a much neater and nicer finish.

Beautiful images Trish! I loved looking at your pinterest file too! These floor tiles are stunning but I think 'make' the room. I'm a great believer in getting that WoW factor with one nice feature and then save money elsewhere to balace the budget. It IS possible to save on vanities, plain white wall tiles and mirror. x KL

Could I add to Jennifer's comment too? "....is don't let the tiler use tile trim. It's a plastic or metal edge that is often used to separate the bathroom floor from carpet and lazy tilers like to use it in places like the recessed shelves"
Tile trim IS NOT the same product as that used on floors as suggested, and is a neat way to edge external corners. Thick, good quality Italian tiles can be mitred but the grout will still pop out regularly. When mitreing the big 600 x 300 rectified edge tiles you're asking for trouble as the thin veneer flakes and chips so easily. A HUGE % of our tiles come from China and are NOT good quality, hence the $20 per metre price point. The reason the tilers grumble is because the risk is high for tile damage by both the tiler and the client when the room's in use. It's about quality workmanship and durability not laziness. x KL

Trish love the direction you are going with your dream bathroom! Bathrooms are my favorite rooms to design and black and white bathrooms are at the top of my list. Just a little suggestion, to keep the cost down, maybe use a marble tile as your field and the basket weave as a border or accent. Sarah Richardson does that all the time and it always reads as if you used more of it than you actually did. Thank you for your visits to my blog and for your encouraging comments on my blog post, it means a lot to me,
Happy Weekend,

Mitred tiles all the way!

It took us a while to find a tiler who was confident to cut tiles on a 45 degree angle, and it was so worth it. The metal trim often looks tacky and can rust :(

You can get the basketweave tile in the first picture on eBay - works out at over $250 per square metre!! This was my bathroom inspiration pic too but I am having to rethink due to the price!
