A trip to the Red Centre

The dream guy & I had an amazing time at Uluru (Ayers Rock)

This is Uluru at sunset.
It really is a magical place, you can watch it change colours throughout the day, but the changes are dramatic at sunrise & sunset!

Sunrise at Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park

Sunrise, the sky was incredible

Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) has 36 domes & looks so different depending on where you are at, but like Uluru it changes colours before your very eyes

Kata Tjuta at sunset

Also Kata Tjuta at sunset, you can see what I mean about the colours changing...

We actually went out there to climb the rock, you know, conquer one of the 7 wonders of the world, but on the day we planned it, the climb was closed due to gusty winds...I was very disappointed about this.
The next day we had a tour booked that included a base walk & there was enough time for us to climb part of the way.
I have to say that after starting the climb I realize I wouldn't have gone all the way after all, its extremely steep & I found it a little terrifying. This is a pic of the dream guy & I sitting on what they call chicken rock, apparently if you make it past here, you can make it all the way!!!

This is the view looking down from as far as I managed to climb, which is approximately 25metres up, the entire climb takes you to a great height of 346 metres. I can only imagine how incredible the view would be!!!

These incredible chairs are placed at all the viewing areas throughout the national park & each one is individual, apparently you can have them made for your own place, you just have to get on the end of the 2yr waiting list!!

We attanded a Sounds of Silence dinner, which was at a secret location in the desert with incredible views of the sunset & a variety of Australian cuisine & wines.
I sampled crocodile, Kangaroo & of course barrumundi. The food was superb & we got to meet some really lovely people.

I have to say, this really is a place you have to see for yourself, the sheer size is overwhelming, the colours are stunning & the history behind why it is so sacred to the aboriginal community really does make you feel priveledged to be there.

If its on your travel wish list, then you must go ASAP, you wont regret it!!!

image via the old painted cottage

What a fabulous way to display some vintage treasures.
I have 3 antique cameras of my own & I am always looking for some inspiration on how to show them off to the world & this is fabulous!

Do you have a love for vintage camera's & whats your tip for creating a vignette with them?

Autumn Fog

I'm not sure you can really say autumn has arrived here in The Hunter Valley. Our days have still been very hot & humid & we are still able to be outside in summer clothes well into the night.

I'm not complaining, after spending the majority of my life living in the Blue Mountains, where the air is crisp year round,
it has been known to snow there in December, you know in the peak of our Australian summer!

I took these photo's of the early morning fog last week because it reminded me of the weather from my home town, we don't often see fog here & it did look rather pretty with the sun shining thru.

Are you still enjoying summer weather at your place?

i know all of my lovely readers on the other side of the world are enjoying the first signs of spring, it really is the best time of the year, seeing all of the blossoms on the trees & the spring bulbs bursting open, I enjoy all of the spring time posts I'm reading at the moment!!

Who knows, perhaps in a month or two I will be able to take some wonderful autumn leaf photos with my fancy new camera!

Enjoy your week everyone

Thank you to all of my lovely followers for stopping by to read my little blog
&
a BIG thank you for the lovely comments you leave,
I really do appreciate that you take time to include me in your busy days!!!

Vintage Camera Collection

One of the things i have started to develop an interest in over the past couple of years  is photography .
Some time in the future I would really love to invest in a decent digital SLR camera & perhaps a basic course, on how to get the most from my camera, with a few basic skills for fab snaps thrown in.

Technology has made taking photos & editing them so easy & there really is NO limit on how many you take, in search of that perfect shot.  In the past with film & developing costs really limited your choices, not to mention the waiting time whilst your film was off at the developers!!

I have been very privileged in being the proud recipient of my in laws first ever cameras.
They had come on a little shopping adventure to Maitland Markets where I was about to buy a vintage camera & kindly offered me theirs instead.
This worked well for all of us, I had a new decorator item that had a little family history & they had someone to look after an item from thier childhood that was dear to them!

These 2 cute little box browning camera's are my new prized posessions.
My mother & father in law both got these as gifts when they where only 13 & 14 yrs old, in the 1940's.
They have been kept in their cases  & carefully stored so they are in pristine condition.
I just love them & feel very privileged to be the new custodian!
Whilst shopping at Maitland Markets on the weekend I came across this cute little vintage Kodak camera, circa 1910 & I thought it would sit perfectly with the box Browning's & complete my little collection!

What do you think? don't they make a perfect trio!!

Maitland Markets are one of Australia's largest markets & they are 5minutes from my home. I would have to say they are a thrifters dream. There are so many stalls full of antiques & pre loved items, if chinoiserie is your passion, then these are the markets for you, the choices are endless, not to mention all of the clever arts & crafts plus the rip off designer stalls!!

I'm not sure where I found these images but I love the rustic display of these vintage cameras!

I enjoy  seeing a few old treasures mixed in with the new, shiny things. I think it adds a little character & warmth to a room, especially if there is a story behind the item.
Sometimes the story of how you came across a vintage item even makes it fun!!

Do you have any family treasures handed down thru the generations?
