Bathroom Niche...Take 2

OOPS!
This is my second attempt at this post, unfortunately the first time around I didn't have any pictures, just HTML.
Sorry if you previously popped in for some eye candy & all you got was text...I have no clue as to why this happened...one of life's little mysteries I suppose.
Unfortunately I only ended up with one pretty picture after all of that, lucky its fabulous!!!

I love the thought of a niche set into the bathroom wall to make way for some shelving. I think its a great way to soften the room.

If you re a neutral colour scheme kind of decorator  like myself, then a set of glass shelves is a great place to create a vignette, adding a pop of colour or added textural elements to the room, that is changeable whenever the restyling urge strikes.

You do experience these urges, don't you?

Now I love how these are accessorized, I imagine it would have a nice little inconspicuous light installed to highlight things in the evening.
Now I just have to convince the dream guy, you know, the one that will actually be doing the building, that it is worth his manpower to actually add this into the bathroom.
I can see I will be pushing the friendship A LOT in this house building process!!!

Perfect pantry

Is this just the most PERFECT pantry on the planet, I would kill to have something so gorgeous in my dream home...

I love how organised this one looks, all of those perfectly matched storage jars, lined up so so neatly... the kids would soon spoil this image!!!

I love these pull out pantry units, very practical & space efficient.

There is a pantry style to suit every home & budget, I guess the most important thing is knowing how to make your allocated space work well for you.
Knowing what you want to keep in your pantry, who is going to be using it & does it need to be visually appealing ,or can you close a door & hide your clutter from the world.

I like the idea of lots of open shelves with matching storage containers to give an organised & tidy feel, even after the kids have been.
I would like some hooks to hang the school bags from. A message board & calender to keep track of our daily activities & school notes, without cluttering up the kitchen,  a place to hang a broom & dust pan. Perhaps a few baskets for tea towels & place mats, rather than keeping them in the linen cupboard.

What sort of pantry do you have or dream of having?

Stylish Storage Part 2

As promised in my previous post, I have taken a few snaps of my storage trunks.

At this point these two trunks are living in my wardrobe, the small one fits nicely inside the large one, unfortunately I have no where to display them in our rental.

I do however have a couple of clocks & a spare quilt stored
inside the small one ,so they are still very useful...

I figured it would be a bit of a boring post if I didn't try to at least style them with whatever treasures I could gather from around the house...

So you can experience some of my very own styling & very amateur photography with NO editing...

Please don't judge me tooooo harshly....

I have introduced you to this guy before, it is the blanket box that goes at the end of my bed.

Sometime in the future I am going to attempt to make a cover for it so it will look like a buttoned ottoman at the foot of my bed...

At this point it lives under my shorter hanging items in my wardrobe & is filled with all things one would keep in a home office, if there was enough space in the house....

We do have another timber style trunk with a rounded lid like a treasure chest. It belongs in my sons bedroom & is used for toy storage, but at this point it is buried deep in the shed with a lot of our other household goods...

I am looking forward to our dream home  being  built so we can enjoy decorating with  these fabulous storage trunks.

Come on Mr Architect, get a move on with the plan updates, a girl can't wait forever!!!

I love storage space....

Whilst I am still in the planning stages of my Dream house I have tried to incorporate storage where ever possible, but its also nice to have some functional yet stylish furnishings that add a little character.

I really love the use of travel style trunks, old & new, as decorator items. Not only do they make a great style statement but they are fabulous for storing all sorts of goodies...

I really do love the look of the Lucite trunks, but you would need to be very conscious of what you placed inside, according to the look you where trying to achieve. I think I would feel the need to create a display in here, or leave it empty,  rather than just storage. Perhaps a collection pretty bottles or candles, what would you do?

As you can see the storage trunk comes in so many sizes & styles & can be made from so many different materials.
They make a fabulous addition if you live in a small space & storage is critical!

 Do you have a storage trunk,or any plans to invest in one?

 There are so many outlets or online stores that stock them , the hardest part is deciding on how much you really want to spend, do you pick one up from a thrift store that is full of character & has an interesting story or do you go top of the range for a little extra pizazz??
I realized when I started writing this post that I am a bit of a collector of storage trunks, perhaps I should take a few snaps of mine to show you them, we have 4 all up & they are used for storing all sorts of things like toys, office supplies & decorator items!!!

Top 8 tips to an organised wardrobe/closet

How does your wardrobe/closet look?

Can you find just what you're looking for in an instant, or do you have to rummage around for that favourite top?

I love organised spaces & really find it hard to focus when I'm surrounded by mess or clutter.I love to have storage solutions for every area in the house & my wardrobe is NO exception.

Not everyone has the option of a fabulous walk in robe or dressing room, BUT, we can all apply some simple systems to keep things organised.

Here are my top 8 tips:

1. Categorise your clothes by season, hang all T shirts together, then group long sleeve tops, create a pants section, evening dresses, pants,skirts,etc.I don't find packing away your winter articles in the summer particularly useful. Mother nature is unpredictable at times & you never know, if you may need to pull out that jumper mid summer, or you might strike a warm winters day from time to time. Now categorise these into colour groups e.g black T shirts, white Tshirts,Denim jeans, red dresses.

2. If you don't have designated shelves for shoes & little floor space within your wardrobe then purchase some cheap shoe racks from a local department store & categorise your shoes, first in colour groups & then in styles, eg all brown flip flops together,brown sandals, brown heels & so on. If you don't have enough room for your entire shoe collection ,grab some clear shoe storage boxes to store them in & store them elsewhere, perhaps under your bed.

3. If you like to keep other things in your wardrobe for personal storage then allocate storage boxes for theses items & label  them appropriately

4. The biggest rule to help avoid clutter is to have a regular CLEAN OUT. If you didn't wear it last season GET RID OF IT. If it didn't fit last season & it still doesn't, GET RID OF IT.... Donate these articles to charity, someone will really appreciate it.

5. Make a space for accessories, you can buy hangers specifically for belts & ties, making them easily accessed.

6. If you don't have the room for shelves to pop your handbags on, you can always hook the handles over the top of a hanger, several together on the one sturdy hanger. Once again grouping in colours. if this doesn't suit your space, try popping them into a labeled storage box.

7. I don't have a jewellery box, so I put sticky hooks on the door of my wardrobe & I hang necklaces & bracelets on them. This way they are on hand when I've chosen my outfit, making it easy to chose the perfect accessories. I have a small sheet of cardboard that I hole punched to hang on a sticky hook, I then stuck pin wholes thru it, to poke my earrings thru. That way they would be hanging right there with the matching necklace.

8.My final tip, when you have finished with something PUT IT AWAY!!!!

Its amazing how much time you save each day when your clothes are organised & you know exactly where things are. It also helps when you are shopping to update your wardrobe for the season, you can remember what you have so rather than accidentally doubling up on things you already own you are able to spend your hard earned cash on some fabulous new season pieces.
